Can Men Over 75 Be Sexually Active

Categories: Viagra

Sexual life for men over 75 is possible according to an Australian study.

The scientists found that almost a third of the older men participating in the study were sexually active even 1 in 10 men aged 90 to 95.

Many sexually active men over 75 report that they wish to have more sex and more frequently. Many elderly men do without sex because of health problems, low testosterone levels or because they have no partners.

The research using a survey data of men aged 75-95 (most of whom were married or living with a partner) discovered that 40 percent of those aged 75-79 had sex in the past 12 months. And what is more intriguing: 11% of males in 90-95 years reported sexual activity over the prior year.

The researchers confirmed that sexual activity is important to older people and even in the 10th decade of life, 1 in 5 men thought sex important part of their lives.

A variety of studies have analyzed sexuality in older people. Sometimes some of them say that they have little or no interest in sex. And many researchers consider that sexual life for people over 70 years old is not important at all. The popularity of Viagra and related drugs among such people seems to suggest that is not true.

In the study held in Australia, scientists examined the results of a sexuality study of almost 2,800 Australian men.  The scientists asked the men about frequency of their sexual activity with a partner within the past year.

Practically 49 % of men aged 75 to 95 considered sex important, and 31 % of men had been sexually active with another person at least once during the previous year.

A variety of factors leads to a lack of sexual activity among men in their 70-80s: lower testosterone levels, partner’s no interest in sex, or physical limitations, osteoporosis, prostate cancer, diabetes. The study also considers the use different drugs such as: depression drugs, blood pressure drugs (beta-blockers) the factors which are connected with absence of sex.

Finally, the study suggests that health problems make up the main reason explaining why older men aren’t sexually active. Still for some per cent of men a lack of a partner and decreased interest in sex are important factors, too. On the whole the study pays attention to the problem of not recognizing older males and females as having sexual lives and helping them address sexual problems when they arise.
